Oil Geology

Requirement for an oilfield (oil and/or gas):

1. Source rock - e.g. organic rich

    e.g. 99% mineral and 1% organic (oil)

    sedimentary rock

    plant material - leave - source of material gas

    marine algae (ganggang) - plankton algae - original source of oil

2. Maturation of source rock

    source rock : containing suitable organic matter which under this condition of heat, pressure, and time

    produce hydrocarbon 

    organic matter decompose - break down

3. Reservoir rock

    not totally full with oil - bad water

    10%-15% oil from the rock

    good recovery 40%-60% yang terjebak di dalam rock

    secondary recovery dilakukan agar mendapatkan lebih banyak minyak (gas or water injection)

    harus memiliki propensity (pendapatan harus lebih besar dari pengeluaran)

    harus memiliki permeability (kemampuan membran dalam meloloskan partikel untuk menembusnya)
